Past Simple

PAST TENSE
I wrote...

Used to express the activity that sarted and finished at the past.
i.e. I did my homework last night.
My friend and I played football on the court yesterday

It is also used to tell about duration in the past.
i.e. I lived in Sambas five years ago.
The girls had a chit chat all day long

The Simple Past can also be used to describe past facts or generalizations which are no longer true.  The use of this is quite similar to the expression "used to"
i.e. She was dummy for years but now she becomes a star in her class.
I didn’t know how to operate computer two months ago

For the negative response, we use DID NOT / DIDN’T
i.e. I didn’t  understand about the topic.
Mrs. Sarah didn’t ask us to have a big package

Let's test your understanding by following the quiz below
1.  Susan (buy) ................. a new book in bookstore with her mom last day.
2. Tom and Sue (play) .............. on their garden.
3. You (clean) .............. the white-board yesterday.
4. This morning, my English teacher (be) ............. absent again.
5. The students (do) ........ the task from their teacher yesterday.
